There's a BIG Summer in store for Welwyn Hatfield...
There's a BIG Summer of fun planned this year, and you can find out about the many events and activities that will be part of it at BIG Summer Presents on Thursday 1 August, at Howardsgate in Welwyn Garden City town centre.
BIG Summer Presents will be outside the Howard Centre from 11am until 3pm, showcasing a number of demonstrations and taster activities from the BIG Summer line-up, taking place at locations across Welwyn Hatfield between 1 and 25 August. This will include sand art, a climbing wall, soft play, a surf simulator, and face painting. Anyone wanting to use the climbing wall will need to wear closed toe shoes.
An online calendar listing all current activities can be viewed at one.welhat.gov.uk/bigsummer and includes:
- Xplorer, taking place on 1, 7, 14 and 21 August at various locations across the borough. This is a fun navigation challenge for the whole family. Primary school children get to explore their surroundings to locate a series of markers. At each marker, children need to identify what is pictured and learn a fun fact to tell their friends. Free to attend.
- Skate Camp and Jam, taking place on Friday 9 August, at Cherry Tree car park in WGC. The camp will run from 12-2pm for anyone wanting to learn how to ride a bike, skate or scoot. The jam will begin at 4.30pm and end at 8.30pm, and is for those who are more experienced. Bring along your own skateboards, scooters or BMX and enjoy a good ride.
- Climbing wall, taking place on 8, 15, and 22 August. FREE climbing wall, participants need to weigh a minimum of 25kg. At various locations in the borough, no booking required.
- Live & create, taking place on 14 August in Market Place, Hatfield. There will be vibrant street theatre, circus and dance performances in the town centre throughout the day. Performances will be accessible and interactive, with a mix of static and walkabout acts in a rolling programme throughout the day. There will also be various stalls where you can get hands on and create items to take away, such as sand art, plus a bungee trampoline and soft play.
Councillor Terry Mitchinson, Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Communications, said:
This year's BIG Summer is going to be even bigger, better and longer than the previous two years - running for just under four weeks - there will be hundreds of activities on offer for toddlers to teens and everyone in between.
Come along to BIG Summer Presents to get a taste of what will be on offer around the borough, and do keep checking the online calendar. There really is something for everyone to enjoy this August.
