Cabinet approves parking changes
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council's Cabinet last night (Tuesday 9 July) approved the introduction of Pay and Display parking in Welwyn Garden City town centre from September.
Pay and Display is one of the most recognised parking payment systems around, and one that most drivers are familiar with.
A number of parking payment facilities were explored before Pay and Display was selected. It will have both cash and credit card/contactless payment options and the ability to pay via an App, allowing for greater flexibility for all users.
The parking machines will be installed on the following town centre car parks:
- Hunter's Bridge Multi-Storey car park
- Campus West
- Campus East Upper
- Campus East Lower
- Cherry Tree
Cllr Stephen Boulton, Executive Member for Parking and Planning, said:
As the contract with CP Plus was coming to an end in September, and the machines have reached the end of their useful lives, we were keen to see how we could improve the parking experience of our residents and shoppers while tendering for the new contract.
Having different payment options is part of this consideration. Additionally, Civil Enforcement Officers will continue to patrol these car parks on their daily round, as we're aware that many visitors find them a reassuring presence. They will also be on hand to give advice where needed.
