In memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore

A message from council leader, Cllr Tony Kingsbury.

Captain Sir Tom

Today we lower the council flag to half-mast in memory of the life of Captain Sir Tom Moore. It is a rare honour for someone outside of royalty who is not from the borough of Welwyn Hatfield, but Captain Sir Tom was an exceptional individual. What he did at a time of national crisis is unlikely ever to be forgotten.

He inspired us all, galvanizing the country at the most challenging of times, and offering a beacon of hope in the darkness and uncertainty.

My hope is that we can be inspired by the memory of his life to strengthen our efforts against this dreadful disease, and get back to the way of life he and many others fought so bravely for.

As Capt Sir Tom said himself:

We will get through it in the might take time, but at the end of the day we shall all be OK again... the sun will shine on you again and the clouds will go away.

Wise words indeed, but it's his actions we will treasure. Thank you, Tom.
