New financial support for COVID impacted businesses
Businesses in Welwyn Hatfield impacted by COVID-19 which have not had access to some of the direct financial support from the government's national schemes, could benefit from an alternative cash injection with the Additional Restrictions Grant being administered by Welwyn Hatfield Council.
The council will be prioritising those businesses that have not been eligible for both the 100% rates relief and the Small Business Grant Fund or the Retail Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund.
The total value of grants paid will be limited to the amount of money received from central government and the amount of each grant will depend upon the number of businesses applying. However, all successful applicants will receive a minimum of £500.
Businesses set to benefit are:
- businesses that are not on the local rating list
- businesses which may not be forced to close but rely on the sale (or hire) of goods and services to individuals or to other businesses that have been adversely affected
- businesses which have had reduced trade due to the effects of COVID-19
Councillor Duncan Bell, Executive Member for Resources, said:
As a result of earlier support schemes, we have paid out £15.150m to 1,125 eligible businesses in Welwyn Hatfield, helping support shops, cafes, hotels, restaurants and many other businesses. However, we appreciate that many have missed out from the previous national schemes. This Additional Restrictions Grant now enables us to prioritise those businesses and the hardworking people that run them, in these extremely difficult times.
For further details and to apply visit Welwyn Hatfield Council's website here.
All applications must be received by 31 December 2020. Regrettably, any applications received after this date will not be considered.
Grant applications will all be assessed once the application process closes with the aim to start disbursing amounts as soon as possible thereafter.
