Splashlands is jetting off!

Splashlands, the new wet and dry adventure and play facility in Stanborough Park, Welwyn Garden City, is opening this Thursday 30 July.

Splashlands is jetting off!

Ready on time and on budget, the £2.2 million project features a paddling river meandering through a 600m² splashpad water play area. It is surrounded by a nautical themed adventure playground with a large pirate ship and a variety of play equipment for children of all ages.

The splash pad has 67 jets split into toddler and kid zones which shoot up to 1.5m in the air with pads that activate water sprays when they are jumped on. The result: a water playground with flowing, misting, spraying, jetting and splashing water providing fun for children of all ages.

Councillor Terry Mitchinson, Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Communications, said:

Thursday marks a very special day. Residents have waited a long time for this and we know how much it means to families. A lot of thought has gone into the planning of Splashlands to ensure we were able to provide a free leisure facility, for people of all ages. It's not just the little ones that get to have fun as there's also an outdoor gym and sports pitch to keep the bigger kids entertained. We hope it will be the source of many happy childhood and family memories for years to come.

Leader of the council, Councillor Tony Kingsbury, said

After months of planning, it's fantastic to see Splashlands ready on time and within budget. To open this free landmark leisure facility in Welwyn Garden City's centenary year, makes it a particularly special moment in the history of our borough and underlines our continued commitment to ensure Welwyn Hatfield is a great place to live, work and play both now and for future generations.

Following government guidelines on coronavirus, the contractor managing the facilities on behalf of the council, Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL), has various measures in place to keep people safe, including a limit on the number of people to initially 130 at any one time.

The toilets will be open along with a kiosk serving drinks and snacks.

Splashlands will be open daily from 10.00am to 6.00pm, or dusk if earlier. Weather permitting, the splashpad will be open from Good Friday to the last Sunday in September. The outdoor gym and pitch will remain open all year round.
