This Girl Can Returns to Welwyn Hatfield
This Girl Can, the Sport England campaign to get women and girls active, returns to Welwyn Hatfield this June and the council is calling on all local sports clubs, societies, schools and leisure providers to get involved by organising a programme of female-friendly sessions.
Now in its fifth year, This Girl Can aims to inspire women and girls to get active whilst celebrating women who are doing their thing no matter how they do it, how they look or even how sweaty they get.
There is a great opportunity to get more women in the area on the move. Research from Sport England¹ shows that in Welwyn Hatfield, 45.2% adults (14+) take part in sport at least once a week (national average of 37%), of which 52.6% are men and 38% of women.
Over 50 activities were on offer on the One Welwyn Hatfield website last year and it's estimated that over 300 women took part. This year, the council is keen to break the previous year's record and get even more people involved.
The campaign runs from 15-21 June and it's easy for local clubs and organisations to be part of the action. To deliver an activity simply download and complete the activity form on the One Welwyn Hatfield website here and return it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The information will then be used to feature a club's various female-friendly activities on the events calendar on the One website during the week of the campaign.
Councillor Fiona Thomson, Executive Member for Governance, Public Health and Climate Change, said,
We're really excited to be working in partnership again with organisations, and I'm encouraging as many clubs as possible to join us and sign up. If you're looking to try something new or want to rekindle a love for an old hobby, This Girl Can in Welwyn Hatfield is all about inspiring more women in the borough to feel healthier, happier and fitter!
