The Public Sector Decarbonisation Grant explained
What it will fund and why we applied.
The council applied for funding from the government's Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. Our successful application consisted of a package of works totalling £2.3m for Campus West, Hatfield Swim Centre and Campus East.
The grant will benefit our communities in several ways:
· The money will save the local taxpayer by paying for necessary replacement works and reducing our energy bills, allowing us to invest more in the delivery of local services.
· The grant will cut our carbon emissions by 500 tonnes. That is the equivalent of removing 400 cars from the borough's roads for a year.
The grant is specifically for non-domestic public sector buildings. All estimates provided for the works were prepared by qualified mechanical and electrical specialists, following a rigorous technical assessment by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
We will award the contracts for the work in line with the council's procurement policy, a key part of which seeks best value for the public purse.
