Council set to appoint interim Chief Executive to permanent role
The new Chief Executive of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (WHBC) will be Ka Ng, subject to the formal agreement of Full Council on 14 July.
Ka has been in the interim Chief Executive post since November 2020. Before that, she was WHBC's corporate director responsible for resources, environment, and leisure. It was in that role she oversaw both town centre regeneration programmes, the delivery of Splashlands and the rollout of weekly food waste collections.
A Welwyn Garden City resident, Ka first began her time at WHBC in 2009 as a management accountant. After several internal promotions and periods outside the borough, she returned in 2016 as corporate director.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Tony Kingsbury, said:
Ka knows our borough and is deeply committed to the council and communities we serve. Since her appointment to the interim position in November, she has shown her expert ability to lead this authority during what has been a most turbulent time. As we look ahead towards recovery, we are confident she has the right vision and drive to help shape a better future for everyone in Welwyn Hatfield.
Of her appointment, Ka said:
I am thrilled to have this opportunity. I have enjoyed many years living and working in the borough, getting to know the people, our partners and dedicated colleagues at the council. There are some great challenges ahead, but some great opportunities too. Our ambitious programme of change and renewal is supporting social and economic recovery across the borough. That recovery remains my top priority in the coming months, to secure a future for Welwyn Hatfield where everyone can thrive.
Ka is a qualified accountant and has a BSc (Hons) Mathematical Sciences and MSc in Operational Research from University of Birmingham.
