Welwyn Hatfield recognised as Tree City of the World!

We are proud to announce that we have been awarded 'Tree City of the World' status.

A selection of different trees across the borough

For the third year in a row, we have been awarded Tree City of the World status. The application was completed at the end of January for 2021 and we were notified of our success last week.

There are five components to us achieving this status, including:

  • Dedicated qualified team to manage the tree stock

  • Policies and strategies in place for the management

  • Inventory of the tree stock

  • Funding to manage the tree stock

  • Celebrating the tree stock

Now more than ever, trees and woodlands are a vital component of healthy, livable, and sustainable communities across the globe. We're proud to join cities across the UK in leading the way to ensure that our trees are properly maintained, sustainably managed, and celebrated!

A massive congratulations and thank you to our Landscape and Ecology team and Tree Wardens whose dedication to their field has been fittingly rewarded again.
