Ukraine Independence Day
Today marks exactly six months since Russia's invasion, and 31 years since Ukraine declared independence from the Soviet Union.
To show our solidarity, yesterday the Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield, Cllr Barbara Fitzsimon, raised the Ukrainian flags outside the council office. Cabinet members and staff members gathered along with our Chief Executive, Ka Ng, to watch and reflect. Svetlana, our Ukrainian colleague also attended the gathering. Many people brought sunflowers which are Ukraine's national flower and have been used as a symbol of peace.
To further show our support for the Ukrainian people, today our clock tower will be lit yellow and blue, the colours of the Ukrainian flag.
