Welwyn Garden City bus station closed from 5 Sept for improvement works
Hertfordshire County Council are progressing with cycle and pedestrian improvements in Welwyn Garden City town centre. This includes dedicated space for cycling on Bridge Road (Hunters Bridge).
Following the successful completion of the preparation works in August, main works to install a permanent two-way cycle route on Bridge Road between Bessemer Road and the town centre in Welwyn Garden City will start on Monday 5 September.
The Bus station will be closed from 5 September 2022 for around 2 weeks whilst the toucan crossing (signalised crossing point for both pedestrians and cyclists) on Osborn Way is installed. Please use the stops outside Waitrose (Stop H) and John Lewis (Stop J) for travel and check your journey. Osborn Way will also be closed during this time and a temporary pedestrian crossing will be in place. Diversion signs will be visible for drivers.
The next phase of work will follow from mid-September. This will include works to the footway outside Welwyn Carpet Mills.
Bridge Road cycleway is expected to be completed in January 2023. Work will then start in the Howardsgate area.
