New-look team to lead next era for Welwyn Hatfield

The first formal meeting of a new-look senior management team took place last week marking the start of an exciting new era at Welwyn Hatfield Council.

Since new Chief Executive, Ka Ng, took over the permanent role in July 2021, a senior management restructure has taken place to bring in a modern, ambitious, and dedicated team at the top of the council.

The new leadership team will be tasked with strengthening a culture of high performance and sharpening the council's focus on getting results for the people and businesses of Welwyn Hatfield. This will be achieved by:

o   Making better use of data to drive improvements

o   Continuing to build an organisation where challenge, innovation and creative solutions are the norm

o   Ensuring they lead by example, demonstrating the values and behaviours expected of the council and the wider community

o   Providing clear leadership on climate change

o   Completing the full integration of housing into the council's services

o   Launching a new transformation programme, ensuring that the council puts people and communities in Welwyn Hatfield at the heart of how it designs, plans and delivers its services

Cllr Tony Kingsbury, Leader of the Council, said: "With some posts attracting over 50 strong applicants from across the UK, we have been able to bring in some of the best talent in local government. That's vital for us as the challenges we face continue to grow, with the cost of living hitting residents hard at the same time as public finances are under mounting pressure. I have met with the Senior Management Team and look forward to working closely with them in the years ahead."

Ka Ng, Chief Executive, said: "For many of the new team, their first experience of the borough was in leading the community's response to the death of HM The Queen Elizabeth II. It was immediately clear that we have an impressive and committed group of officers who take their responsibilities as public servants seriously, and with passion.  I am confident that our new team will have the energy, drive and commitment to deliver the priorities of our communities.
