The grants are available to community and voluntary organisations from a range of sectors including music, dance, drama, sport, youth, health and many more, who are looking to make a positive impact on the community. Successful applicants can receive up to £2000 in funding.

The impact of the grants is already far-reaching; local organisations including Stevenage Football Foundation, Northaw Community Orchard, Hatfield House Chamber Music Festival, and the 6th Welwyn Garden City Guide Group, have all received a welcome financial boost to help them continue the amazing work they are doing.

Stevenage Football Foundation was awarded funding for its 'Strength and Balance' programmes at Woodhall Community Centre. Run with Herts Sports Partnership, the classes provide the opportunity for older adults to take part in exercise in a relaxed and friendly environment, helping participants to maintain their independence and improve their strength and balance.

The Hatfield Welwyn Community Choir received funding to buy new songbooks and music. And for Birchwood Trust, which offers strength and support to the school community, funding was used to pay for coach hire to transport families experiencing hardship to a trip to the seaside.

Cllr Terry Mitchinson, Executive Member for Leisure and Community, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, said:

It's wonderful to see so many local groups benefiting from the Small Community Grants, and I would encourage many more groups to think of this resource when they are looking for funding. Creating safe and healthy communities is vital to our health and well-being, and I encourage residents to explore the many activities on offer across the borough - and make full use of the amazing work these local groups are doing.

Applications to the Small Community Grants are especially welcomed from clubs, community groups, and youth groups supporting safe and healthy communities.
