Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council brings employment and training opportunities to the unemployed
Ten long term unemployed Welwyn Hatfield residents graduated, some with distinction, from a Pitman Bespoke Office Key Skills Diploma course.
The training course was organised and hosted by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and funded through the Community Wealth Building Together Project, which was supported by the Local Enterprise Partnership
The course supported the ten candidates who learned a variety of skills including how to use packages such as Microsoft 365, thereby boosting their chances of securing employment.
Belinda a student on the course said:
"I have been on many courses via the Job Centre before but have never been treated so kindly, professionally and warm as I have been on these courses. All the tutors were great in showing me something different. Being middle aged now I have learnt a lot during my working lifetime, but as they say you are never too old to learn something new."
The training course which began on 28th November and finished on the 7th of December 2022 saw the candidates embark on an eight-day Microsoft practical training and a CV writing training session with Osbourne Recruitment Agency who provided insight on how to apply for jobs.
Councillor Tony Kingsbury, Leader of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council said:
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council cares about its residents and we are humbled to play a small role in positively changing the lives of community members by offering them marketable skills which can help previously unemployed individuals break out of damaging cycles.
Our ambition is to provide more opportunities for residents of our borough to develop their skills for the job market. This training course is a perfect example of the type of training initiatives we want to offer to our residents.
The students, who also learned the importance of time management and employment networking on LinkedIn, were presented with Diploma certificates by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council's Chief Executive, Ka Ng and by the Leader of the Council.
