Have your say on the Local Plan - Welwyn Hatfield borough-wide consultation starts today

People in Welwyn Hatfield can have their say on the latest proposed changes to the borough's emerging Local Plan - the blueprint for growth over the next 15 years.

Long shot of houses in the borough.

You can now go online to give us your views, view hard copies of documents in libraries and Town and Parish Council offices, or you can send your response by email to localplan@welhat.gov.uk

The consultation starts today on modifications to the Local Plan, proposed by the independent Planning Inspector, to ensure that it can be found 'sound'.

The results of the consultation will be considered by the Inspector as he prepares a final report on the plan that would be brought back to the Council's cross-party Cabinet Planning and Parking Panel, Cabinet, and full Council in Summer 2023.

Cllr Stephen Boulton, the Council's Executive Member for Planning and Resources, said:

We have been tireless in our pursuit of a sound Local Plan, including writing to government and pushing back on the Inspector's requirement for a supply in excess of 15,000 dwellings. The proposal we are now consulting on will provide a ten-year supply of a much lower figure, and would be an important step in ensuring the delivery of high-quality houses, affordable homes and improved infrastructure in the borough.

This Local Plan is an important document that will affect future generations and I would strongly encourage as many people as possible to take part in the consultation.

The consultation is open between 4 January and 15 February 2023.
