Flying the rainbow flag for Herts Pride
The rainbow colours of the LGBTQ+ pride flag will fly above the council offices this weekend in celebration of Hertfordshire Pride.
Herts Pride takes place this Saturday (31 August) at Cassiobury Park in Watford, bringing the county's LGBTQ+ communities together for a day of music, entertainment and celebration.
The Welwyn Hatfield Youth Council will be attending as part of their 'Operation Stigma' campaign, which aims to reduce stigma and promote LGBTQ+ issues in schools.
Campus West will also be hosting special screenings of the films 'Pride' and 'Are You Proud?' next week to celebrate.
Cllr Tony Kingsbury, Leader of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, said:
I am proud that Welwyn Hatfield is an inclusive and welcoming borough for everyone, and events like Herts Pride are really important in helping us promote and celebrate that diversity.
Laura Wells, Chair of the Youth Council, said:
LGBTQ+ has been one of our main priorities this year and we've put a lot of focus into it. This is why the Youth Council is so excited to be attending Herts Pride, it's very important to us.
