A message to Welwyn Hatfield Businesses

We understand this is a very worrying and difficult time for many of you.

Hatfield Business Park

As we all learn to adapt to this unprecedented change, the council is committed to doing everything we can to support our local business community.

What's set out below aims to clarify what recent government announcements may mean for you and your business; we will update this statement as soon as we know more.

Business rates

Further to the 2020/21 budget announcement, the 100% business rate discount will now apply to all eligible businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors, for 12 months.

The discount for pubs with a rateable value below £100,000 in England will be increased from £1,000 to £5,000 for one year from 1 April 2020 and a £1,500 business rates discount for office space used by local newspapers in England will be extended for an additional five years until 31 March 2025.

We hope to reissue bills shortly with this discount applied.

You do not need to contact us, but if you have any questions, please email c.tax@welhat.gov.uk

Business grants

The government has announced a small business grant of £10,000 (increased from £3,000 last week) for all businesses receiving small business rate relief, or rural rate relief.

There will also be grant funding of £25,000 for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses in properties with a rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000.

We are currently working through the guidance issued by government and will be writing to businesses who are eligible.
