White Lion Square Public Realm
The work to refurbish White Lion Square completed in September 2019.
The square features new benches, picnic tables, table tennis, children's play equipment and cycle parking. Aimed at creating a more welcoming environment and driving footfall to local shops and businesses, the £1.2m transformation has been funded by the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership
Return of Pearl
The 50-year-old statue was commissioned by Maxwell Fry, the architect who designed much of Hatfield's town centre. Pearl was carved in the mid-60s by sculptor James Butler RA and sat in the middle of a fountain in White Lion Square until it's decommission. After a number of temporary moves elsewhere around the town, she was eventually placed in storage during 2013. Thanks to an overwhelming community vote, Pearl has now returned to White Lion Square and sits at the top of the square. Click here to read more about Pearl coming home.
