Lilac Close, Hatfield - March 2018
Seven new homes in Lilac Close (formerly Furzen Crescent) in Hatfield were the first new rented council built and owned properties to be completed as part of the council's Affordable Housing Programme.
New tenant Ella Jones, said:
"The house is lovely, it doesn't feel like a council house. I'm very happy.
The two bedroom homes were designed to enable independent, flexible and adaptable living and include features such as space for a through floor lift and a route for a tracking hoist should there be a need in the future. The design, layout and physical security of the homes have also received the Secured by Design Silver certification.
Our former Leader of the Council, Cllr Mandy Perkins, who was Executive Member for Planning, Housing and Community (until she sadly passed away later in the year), said:
I'm really excited to see these houses, our first council-built and owned houses in over twenty years, completed. They really do look brilliant. Our Housing Development team has done a fantastic job in partnership with Mears New Homes, to finish this housing scheme to such a high specification. I wish our incoming tenants many happy years here.
The development has won the LABC - Building Excellence Awards 2019 for the Best High Volume New Housing Development and was a finalist for the Best Social and Affordable New Housing Development.
