Lime Tree Court, Hatfield - July 2018
Twenty two new council owned flats were unveiled in Lime Tree Court, Hatfield in early July, completing the next phase of our Affordable Housing Programme.
We worked in partnership with Mears New Homes to build the 22 flats on a former disused garage site known as Garden Avenue, which had been difficult to let and maintain, and blighted by anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping.
The new homes were designed to a high standard with plenty of space, by architects Rock Townsend, and met the Police Secure by Design standards. Special attention was given to energy efficiency to ensure lower fuel bills for tenants.
The homes were also constructed to meet Lifetime Home Standard, which means all of the flats can be easily adaptable for lifetime use at minimal cost if a tenant's needs change.
All of the flats have access to a secure communal garden, and the majority have their own terrace. One of the flats is fully adapted for a wheelchair user, with its own garden and car port.
Tenant Jodie Simmons, who moved into a new one bedroom flat at the end of May, said:
We couldn't believe we were offered something this nice in the perfect location for our jobs and being close to our families.
The balcony is my favourite part, and I'm over the moon we've got that.
