New award to honour late council leader
A new award is open for nominations in memory of the council's late leader, Cllr Mandy Perkins.
The Mandy Perkins Memorial Award will recognise an organisation, group or person who has gone the extra mile to make the borough a safer or more supportive place for those affected by domestic abuse.
Cllr Perkins campaigned relentlessly to end domestic abuse and the award has been set up by the local Domestic Abuse Forum, on which she served as Vice-Chair for many years.
The entries will be judged by Welwyn Hatfield Domestic Abuse Forum Chair, Vice-Chair and Mandy's husband, David Perkins.
Examples may include:
- A local project set up to make an impact in the area of domestic abuse.
- A person going above and beyond to raise awareness/campaign/support those affected by domestic abuse.
- A group who have worked with determination to make a change to the local perspective of domestic abuse.
Sharon Montgomery, Chair of the Welwyn Hatfield Domestic Abuse Forum, said:
Mandy was an inspiration for so many and this new award pays tribute to the impact she had on the lives of those affected by domestic abuse.
We have an incredible community that works hard day in, day out to make the borough a safe and supportive place for survivors of domestic abuse, and we are looking forward to recognising their contributions in Mandy's honour.
Nominations for this award are now closed and the winner will be announced at the annual Tri-District Domestic Abuse Conference on Thursday 28 March. For more information please contact email@example.com.
