Pay and Display introduced in WGC

The way residents pay for parking in council car parks in WGC will change from next week.

Hunters Bridge

A pay and display system will operate in the following car parks from the dates listed:

· Campus East Lower - 26 September

· Campus West - 27 September

· Hunters Bridge - 30 September

From these dates, car park visitors must pay for parking before leaving their vehicle. Cash, card and contactless payment options are available.

You can also pay via an App (Pay by Phone), allowing you to extend your stay if needed, which you can also do by phone (0800 546 0601) or online at

Parking charges will remain the same, including a free parking period of 30 minutes.

Cllr Stephen Boulton, Executive Member for Environment and Planning, said:

Councillors spent a lot of time assessing a range of different options for our WGC car parks.

Pay and Display is one of the most recognised parking payment systems around, and one that most drivers are familiar with. We're also really pleased to offer residents much greater flexibility in how they pay.

Signage will be in place to alert users to the changes and officers will be around in the first two weeks to help answer any queries.

Why are you introducing Pay and Display?

Our contract for the management of our WGC car parks came to an end in September 2019, and the machines are at the end of their useful life.



Are parking charges going up?

No, charges across all car parks will remain the same. Please see for more information.



Can I still park for free for 30 minutes?

Yes, although please make sure you still display a valid ticket.



What if I need to extend my stay?

You can extend your stay on the App (Pay by Phone). You can also extend your stay by phone on 0800 546 0601 or online using



Will I get a reminder when my parking is about to run out?

If you use the Pay by Phone App you will get a notification 10 minutes before the parking session is due to expire.



Have you changed the payment options?

Yes, we've increased the payment options available. You can now pay by App (Pay by Phone), with cash, and on card - including contactless, Apple and Android Pay.



Do the machines accept notes and coins?

Yes, the machines accept both notes and coins. However, no change will be given.



What happens if there's a problem with the machine?

There will be a number to call on the signage in the car park should there be an issue. There are multiple machines in each of the car parks, so please use one of the other machines and, if possible, notify the council using the number provided.

Council officers will be present across our car parks in the first couple of weeks of the changes coming in to help answer questions.
