Small grants from £300 to £10,000 are available to support sport and physical activity groups to deal with the immediate challenges of returning to play in a Covid-safe manner.

These grants can be used towards the cost of running an activity for smaller groups than usual or having correct hygiene or safety equipment.

There are also awards of up to £50,000 from Sport England's Community Asset Fund to help sports clubs and organisations adapt and open important places and spaces for the local community to safely return to play and physical activity.

This could include assisting with costs incurred by converting existing space to meet social distancing guidelines or improving a facility's ventilation.

For more information on the Coronavirus funding available from Sport England go to www.sportengland.org/how-we-can-help. Applications are open until 30 June.

Milan Johnston, Sports Partnership Officer at Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, said:

It's been a tough year for the borough's sports clubs and groups. They are a vital part of our local community, so we're encouraging them to look at the funding that's available to help them get back up and running safely.
