We have launched a joint bid for Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield to each be a UK Town of Culture 2028.

The government Town of Culture competition aims to highlight the contribution of towns in our national story. It is about celebrating what is unique about our area and showcasing the heritage, culture and creativity.

The winning town will receive three million pounds to spend on a year long programme of cultural celebrations throughout 2028.

'Distinct by Design' - our bid for Welwyn and Hatfield

The joint bid focuses on how our towns are 'Distinct by Design' bringing together Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield through a shared cultural programme.

We want to celebrate how two differently planned towns have developed and continue to grow together through culture, creativity, and community engagement.

We asked residents about which sporting, artistic and other cultural activities they take part in and what they would like to see more of in an online survey which closed on 25 March.
