Minster House, Hatfield

Minster House is a £20m, state-of-the-art apartment complex, under construction at Minster Close, Hatfield.

91 high-quality apartments are currently under construction to support independent living for residents that are 60 and over. The new apartments will replace the previous council-owned older persons housing scheme at Minster Close which was identified as no longer fit for purpose. The apartments are social rented accommodation managed by the council.

Construction on Minster House began in December 2020 and the work is expected to be completed in Spring 2023.

Details of the development

The development is made up of:

  • 20 two bed apartments
  • 69 one bed apartments
  • 2 studios 
  • 6 of the ground floor properties are fully adapted for wheelchair users.

The high-quality apartments are fitted with contemporary bathrooms and kitchens. All one and two bedroom apartments have individual balconies.

All the properties can be accessed by lift and have level access wet rooms or low level shower trays.

The development will also include:

  • a large outdoor space, landscaped gardens, a roof terrace
  • library, hairdresser and an arts and crafts room
  • communal lounge
  • smaller break out areas throughout the building where people can sit and meet

The new properties will be available to let in stages starting from Spring 2023.

They will be advertised on our Choice Based Lettings website. You can apply through the Housing Needs Register or find out more about applying for council housing.

The properties are for older residents and one member of the household must be aged over 60 or have an identified medical need for sheltered accommodation. They will be allocated in line with our housing allocations policy.

Residents of sheltered accommodation will be offered a secure lifetime tenancy.
