Cubs Discover Welwyn Garden City’s Hidden Gems with Treasure Map Trails

Treasure map and wgc cubs final

The Welwyn Garden City Cubs took part in a photo call on Tuesday 19 September on The Campus, just before setting off from Campus West with special treasure maps.

The Treasure Maps, which were funded by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, follow trails all over Welwyn Garden City that show points of historical and cultural interest in the town – and have been promoted by the council throughout the summer at events like the World Food Festival (where over 900 maps were used by visitors!).

The maps are produced by Treasure Map Trails, which has maps for towns all over the UK. In the Welwyn Garden City map, users must find 12 treasures, including statues, sculptures, and carvings, challenging them to see familiar places in a completely new way.

Local Cub Leader, Viv Owen, said:

“The third and ninth WGC Cubs - and their leaders - had fun using the maps to find some of WGC`s hidden treasures, learning some local history on the way. It was perfect for their Local Knowledge badge and gave them some map reading practice, too!”

Viv added,

“Thank you to Welwyn Hatfield Council for the maps!”

Cllr Max Holloway, Executive Member, Community & Leisure, said:

“We were keen to help our local young people find out more about our beautiful, historic borough in a fun way, which they can also be rewarded for as Cubs. We hope they enjoyed the trail.”
