This October the majestic Coronation Fountain in the centre of Welwyn Garden City has been turned pink to highlight Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Now in its nineteenth year, the collaboration between Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and locally based pharmaceuticals company Roche UK remains as strong as ever in colouring the fountain in a bright display of support for the fight against breast cancer.

The Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield, Councillor Pankit Shah, and Richard Erwin, General Manager of Roche stood side by side with councillors and staff from both organisations as the mayor helped symbolically turn the water pink on Monday 2 October.

Mayor, Cllr Pankit Shah, said:

“It’s wonderful to be part of this momentous event of turning the fountain pink again for the Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“We’ve done this for nearly 20 years, and it underlines our commitment to highlight this terrible disease, and everyone affected by it. I hope we can continue to do this for many more years to come.”

Richard Eaton, Breast Cancer Lead at Roche UK said,

"For many years we have been proud to partner with Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every October, the fountain helps increase the profile of this disease among the local community and acts as a reminder to regularly check yourself for any signs and symptoms of breast cancer.”

The fountain will continue to be pink until 31 October, when the colour will be removed and it will return to being clear again.
