Raising awareness at the upcoming Purple Tuesday!
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is proudly supporting Purple Tuesday, helping to improve the customer experience for disabled people and their families across the borough.
To celebrate, the council are holding a special event in the Howard Centre, Welwyn Garden City, on Tuesday 7 November.
From 10.30am – 2.30pm outside the Pandora shop inside the retail centre, there will be an array of information and entertainment! Information stalls from organisations including Space Hertfordshire (a charity supporting families of children and young people who are neurodivergent), AccessAble, the council’s Residents’ Panel, and Step2Skills, among others, will be there.
At 11.30am the fabulous Purple All Stars will be performing, followed by the equally fantastic Pushing Boundary’s Crew at 1pm. Plus council officers will be giving out goody bags of purple products including, water bottles, chocolate, boomerangs, notebooks, and pens, plus a £5 voucher to spend at selected retail stores!
Cllr Duncan Jones, Executive Member, Resources, said:
We are delighted to host our Purple Tuesday community event to raise awareness of the challenges and opportunities faced by disabled people. We believe that disability should not be a barrier to living a fulfilling and independent life.
That is why the council is proud to be a disability confident employer and to have one of the most accessible websites among UK local authorities – scoring second out of 350 such organisations recently. We’re committed to supporting disabled people and their families in our community and beyond.
