Welwyn Hatfield residents can take advantage of government grants, local schemes and advice this winter to reduce their energy bills and improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

ECO Flex 4 and Home Upgrade Grant 2 (HUG2) are two UK Government schemes that fund energy-efficiency upgrades for properties.

ECO Flex 4 funds improvements to homes such as loft and wall insulation, solar panels and smart thermal controls. This scheme is designed to help people insulate their homes, make them more energy efficient and save money on their energy bills.  If you’d like to find out more about the ECO Flex 4, contact Better Housing, Better Health by visiting their website or by calling 0800 107 0044.

HUG2 is a scheme that funds energy-efficiency upgrades for properties that are off-gas heating. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you may be able to get a grant to help with improved insulation, solar panels, low carbon heating and energy-efficient water systems.

To find out if your household is eligible for HUG2, visit their website or call 0808 1968255 for assistance.

Another scheme funded by central government is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme which offers grants of up to £7,500 to eligible households to replace existing oil, gas or electric heating systems with more efficient, low carbon heating systems such as air or ground source heat pumps or biomass boiler. Find out more and apply.

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council also advises residents to download the Hertfordshire Energy Advice Tool (HEAT) app which offers quick and easy low or no-cost actions to help save money on energy bills and reduce a household’s carbon footprint. The HEAT app is free to download and is available on Google Play and Apple's App Store.

Leader of the Council and Executive Member Climate Change, Cllr Paul Zukowskyj said:

Improving home energy efficiency is important to ensure households stay warm throughout the cold winter months, but it is also key to help reduce carbon emissions. It’s great to see that funding and home improvements are available for those in the borough who need it the most. If your household is eligible, I really hope you take advantage of the support.
