Christmas and New Year waste and recycling collections

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council would like to remind residents that there will be changes to bin collections over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

Residents can find the revised bin collection dates on the council’s website at welhat.gov.uk/Christmas-2023. To ensure your bin gets collected, please make sure your bins are on the boundary of your property by 7am on the day of collection. Collections will return to normal on Monday 22 January.

We are also encourging residents to reduce Christmas waste and recycle as much as possible over the festive period. To help with this, Tewin Road Recycling Centre will be open Monday - Friday, 10am - 6pm over the Christmas holidays except Christmas next to blue lidded bins and it will be collected on recycling days as part of a trial we are undertaking.

If you would like to recycle your real Christmas tree, Isabel Hospice is offering to collect trees between the 5 and 10 January in exchange for a small donation. You can book a collection online at isabelhospice.org.uk/treecycle.

Executive Member for Environment, Councillor Sandreni Bonfante said:

“As we all know, the excess waste generated at Christmas time can have a significant impact on the environment, so it’s important that we all do our part by recycling and disposing of our waste responsibly. I encourage residents to check their revised bin collection dates, take advantage of the extra cardboard collections and recycle excess waste at Tewin Road Recycling Centre”
