A special site visit took place on Friday (23 February) of the nearly completed temporary accommodation at Swallowfields in Welwyn Garden City.

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council Chief Executive Ka Ng, Leader, Cllr Paul Zukowskyj, and Deputy Leader and Executive Member, Housing, Lynn Chesterman OBE, as well as other councillors and officers, toured round the site.

The development consists of 20 high-quality flats comprising 14 one-bed and six studio flats.

Swallowfields is designed with the residents’ safety in mind with CCTV on site. There are also two entrances and ample parking, with space for 20 vehicles, including four electric vehicle (EV) chargers. The development also includes secure cycle stores for 20 bicycles and brick-built bin stores.

In line with the council’s commitment to sustainability, Swallowfields is equipped with photovoltaic (PV) panels on the roof, supplying power to the communal corridors.

Councillor Lynn Chesterman OBE, Deputy Leader and Executive Member, Housing, said:

We’re really pleased to be introducing this modern and very spacious temporary accommodation. The PV panels, along with the EV chargers, underscores our dedication to promoting green energy solutions, and the development is bright, modern and safe, which is a top priority. It will provide much-needed quality and comfort at a time when residents are no longer in their own home.
