Council thanks woodland and landscape volunteers at special event

Volunteer thank you event

A special ‘thank you’ event organised by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (WHBC) took place on Thursday (7 March) at Oaklands College in Welwyn Garden City, to celebrate local volunteers.

The annual event is an opportunity for local volunteers to get-together to celebrate the year’s achievements, and for WHBC to thank volunteers for their dedication and accomplishments.  Several of the groups of volunteers gave short presentations on their activities, showcasing their amazing work.  Welwyn Hatfield Mayor, Councillor Pankit Shah and his wife, Consort Vaishali Shah were in attendance, along with Councillor Sandreni Bonfante, Executive Member for Environment.

Councillor Shah said:

I was delighted to attend this special event to thank our amazing woodland and landscape volunteers for their hand work and dedication in maintaining and enhancing our green spaces.  It was great to hear first hand about their achievements over the last year and to hear about their plans for next year.  I would like to add my personal thanks to our volunteers for all that they do to make Welwyn Hatfield such a wonderful place to live, work and visit.

Councillor Bonfante said:

We are very lucky in Welwyn Hatfield to have so many green spaces for people to enjoy.  Thanks to the work of our volunteers and our Landscape and Ecology Team, we have won many awards for our local environment, whether that’s winning Tree City of the World status for five consecutive years or winning Gold Awards in the annual Anglia in Bloom competition.  As we heard tonight, being a volunteer can be extremely rewarding and I would encourage anyone interested to find out more on the One Welwyn Hatfield website.
