This Girl Can Week in Welwyn Hatfield returns!
This Girl Can Week in Welwyn Hatfield is returning in June to encourage women and girls to participate in sport, and this year there will be over 50 activities and sessions to try out.
Part of the national campaign by Sport England, This Girl Can Week in Welwyn Hatfield runs from Monday 10 - 16 June, offering sporting and physical activities, mostly for free, at venues right across the borough.
During the week you can try something new, learn a new skill, discover a previously unknown talent, or pick up an activity you participated in some time ago and had forgotten how much you love!
Now in its eighth year, the week of taster sessions are aimed at all ages and abilities and activities include, but are not limited to:
- Woodcrafts and Wellbeing at Stanborough Lakes (South Side)
- Skateboarding at King George V
- American Football at King George V
- Climbing at University of Hertfordshire Sports Village
- Paddleboarding and Kayaking at Stanborough Lakes
- Pickleball at Dellcott Family Tennis Club
- Yoga on the green in Welwyn Garden city town centre
Also, this year, the Welwyn Hatfield Youth Council encourages kids and teens to get involved! They will be running a competition which allows you to show your creative side by designing a piece of artwork based around the theme of ‘get more girls into sports’. There are two age categories:
- Ages 5 - 10 years old must design a poster.
- Ages 11 - 19 years old must create a piece of art such as a poem, video, story, poster, painting or poster.
Submit your entries online or email communitypartnerships@welhat.gov.uk by Sunday 2 June.
Deputy Leader of the Council and Executive Member for Leisure and Community, Cllr Jane Quinton said:
“I am thrilled that we are working with sport organisations across the borough to provide over 50 fun, friendly sessions for women and girls of all sporting abilities. This Girl Can aims to inspire women and girls to get active, feel healthier and feel happier. I encourage you to look at the event calendar online and get involved!”.
