Local organisations invited to host BIG Summer events in Welwyn Hatfield

BIG Summer

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (WHBC) is looking for local organisations that would like to offer events as part of this year’s BIG Summer campaign.

BIG Summer takes place from 29 July - 18 August and the council is keen to hear from organisations across the borough who want to showcase their work, promote their cause, or engage with the community. Event ideas that fit with the theme of arts and culture, sports and fitness, music and entertainment, or community and charity are encouraged.

Now in its eighth year, BIG Summer saw over 300 activities and more than 8,000 children take part over two weeks in 2023, and this year is set to be bigger and better than ever. This is a great opportunity for local organisations to reach a wide audience, raise awareness, and provide some exciting activities for children and young people in a fun and sociable environment.

Some of the events that are already planned include, skateboarding, BMX Pump Track, paddleboarding, African drumming, storytelling and facepainting.

Cllr Jane Quinton, Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Leisure and Community, said:

“BIG Summer 2024 is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and support all the amazing activities our community has to offer. We’re looking for local organisations that want to join us to help make this summer unforgettable for children, teenagers and families across the borough. I would encourage you to get involved, whether you have an idea for an event or by taking part in many activities we will be running over the summer.”
