Step2Skills Awards Council with Community Partner of the Year
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (WHBC) has been honoured with the Community Partner of the Year award at the Step2Skills Achievement Awards.
This recognition comes as a result of their successful collaboration with Step2Skills to offer training courses and workshops for council tenants.
Step2Skills is Hertfordshire County Council’s adult community learning and employment support service. They are working with the Borough Council’s Resident Involvement team to give council tenants the opportunity to brush up on skills or discover new ones.
Recent sessions have included ‘Find Your Career Path’, ‘Understanding Shop Discounts’ and ‘Brilliant Boxes’. The courses can support employability, increase confidence using numeracy skills and help participants build connections in the local community.
Feedback from the courses has been positive with one tenant commenting: “The course started off tricky, but it got easier learning the new skills and making new friends.”
Councillor Gemma Moore, Executive Member Housing, said:
“Our partnership with Step2Skills has been incredibly valuable for our tenants, and we are thrilled to receive the Community Partner of the Year award. Providing training workshops for tenants to learn new skills is a priority for us, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration with Step2Skills to offer even more opportunities in the future.”
