Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council Transforms Springfield House’s Outdoor Space
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (WHBC) is delighted to announce the successful transformation of the outdoor patio at Springfield House, one of their independent living schemes in Welwyn Garden City.
The need for improvement was identified by the council’s housing teams due to the uneven ground, which had rendered the space unusable for the residents. Recognising the importance of a safe and enjoyable outdoor area, the council partnered with Novus, one of the council’s maintenance contractors, to address these issues.
The patio was levelled, thoroughly cleaned and new tables, chairs and a parasol were provided, enhancing the outdoor space for residents to enjoy. Novus also jet-washed the pathway leading to the communal lounge, de-weeded the entire car park and tidied up the hedges surrounding the building, making the entire area look brand new.
This project is a testament to Novus’ commitment to making a positive social value contribution. By improving the outdoor space at Springfield House, Novus has not only enhanced the physical environment but also contributed to the well-being and quality of life of the residents.
Residents of Springfield House celebrated the opening of the newly refurbished patio with a coffee morning. The event was also attended by Cllr Gemma Moore, Executive Member for Housing, representatives from Novus and council officers. The feedback received has been overwhelmingly positive, with one resident expressing their gratitude: “They have done a really good job. It will be lovely for us all to use, to sit outside and have a tea or coffee and a chat.”
Cllr Gemma Moore, Executive Member for Housing, said:
“The transformation at Springfield House is remarkable. This is a fantastic example of a social value contribution from our partner Novus and aligns perfectly with our commitment to put the community at the heart of everything we do and create homes everyone can be proud of. The new patio provides a beautiful and safe space for residents to relax and socialise. I am pleased the improvements will make a big difference to their lives.”
