Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council has announced that from Wednesday 7 August, changes will be made to the type of bins used at 18 recycling (bring) bank locations.

Currently there are a mixture of metal and plastic bins which are emptied using a specialist crane mechanism.  These will be replaced by new 1280 litre, reverse lidded bins which allow the full range of dry mixed recycling to be deposited.  These bins can be emptied by the full fleet of refuse collection vehicles providing more flexibility to the service.

The Council reviewed the service in response to feedback from residents and councillors.  By collecting from recycling sites more flexibly, the Council aims to reduce the number of reports of bins overflowing and the deposit of waste outside of the bins.

Executive Member for Environment, Councillor Sandreni Bonfante said:

We’re pleased to be making this change which will improve the visual appearance of recycling sites, increase the amount of recycling collected and enhance the options for our residents who recycle.

This change would not have been possible without the collaborative work between officers and our waste contractor, Urbaser.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind residents to not leave any waste around the bins as this is classed as fly tipping, where evidence is available we will take appropriate enforcement action.
