Welwyn Hatfield ranked in top 20 for Electric Vehicle charging points in the UK.
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (WHBC) has been ranked 20th overall in the UK for charging points per 100,000 population. The figures were published by The Department for Transport.
In Hertfordshire, WHBC was ranked 2nd among the other Hertfordshire District Boroughs and 6th among councils outside of London Boroughs, highlighting the Council’s commitment to sustainable transportation and its growing electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure and network.
The development of Welwyn Hatfield’s EV infrastructure is a result of successful funding bids by the Council under the On-Street Residential ChargePoint Scheme (ORCS). Going forward, WHBC aims to further expand the provision of charging points within the borough by engaging with the private sector and leveraging additional grant funding opportunities.
Councillor Sandreni Bonfante, Executive Member for Environment, said:
“I am delighted that we were ranked so highly for the development of our EV infrastructure. As the number of electric vehicles in Welwyn Hatfield grows, so does our expanding EV network, ensuring that residents have easy access to charging points. This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to promoting sustainable transportation and reducing our carbon footprint. We remain committed to growing our EV infrastructure and supporting our community’s transition to greener modes of transport.”
