Welwyn Garden City awarded Silver Gilt at 2024 Britain in Bloom Awards

Following their success in this year’s Anglia in Bloom competition, WHBC and the BID represented the Anglia region in the Britain in Bloom competition and were amongst 52 community gardening groups across the country that secured a place in the 2024 finals.  The Council and the BID competed in the Business Improvement District category for the Welwyn Garden City BID area and were up against three other notable entries – InExeter (South West in Bloom), Team London Bridge BID (London in Bloom) and Ulverston Business Improvement District (Cumbria in Bloom).

Each of the 17 Bloom Regions and Nations, which run individual Bloom competitions, nominated the highest performing entries to compete in the UK finals.  Britain in Bloom judges visited each of the finalists in August, including Welwyn Garden City on 13 August and the winners of each category were announced at an awards ceremony in Manchester this afternoon.  This year Britain in Bloom is celebrating 60 years in 2024 with the chosen theme for this milestone year being ‘friendship’.  The judges evaluated entries based on a range of criteria including the environment, community engagement and horticulture.

I am absolutely delighted that we have given this prestigious Britain in Bloom award, particularly after scooping the gold and overall best BID award for Welwyn Garden City in the 2024 Anglia in Bloom competition.  These awards are testament to the hard work of our council officers, our contractors Continental Landscapes, the BID and community volunteers in ensuring that our Borough remains such a beautiful place to live and work in.  Many congratulations to everyone that was involved in our submissions to both competitions.
