WHBC organises community event to celebrate Purple Tuesday
Tuesday 12 Nov is Purple Tuesday and Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council will once again be organising an exciting event to promote accessibility and inclusivity for disabled people and their families.
Purple Tuesday is a global initiative which every November, asks participating organisations to make a public commitment to improve accessibility and practices to help ensure that disabled customers have a more positive experience.
This year’s event in Welwyn Garden City will be held on Tuesday 12 November, 10.30am – 2.30pm in the Howard Centre, outside the Card Factory shop. Visitors will be able to enjoy a range of activities. Free goodies bags will be handed out containing a reusable water bottle, Allium Purple Sensation bulbs (thanks to Joseph Rochford Gardens Ltd), chocolate and a large neon squeezy ball – once they are gone, they are gone! At 11:30am the fabulous Purple All Stars will be performing followed by the equally fantastic Pushing Boundary’s Crew at 1pm.
Local organisations including AccessAble, Oaklands College, Space, Jubilee House and others will be participating, offering promotions and information on how they support accessibility for their disabled customers and students throughout the year.
Cllr James Broach, Executive Member Resources, said:
I am delighted that we are once again hosting a Purple Tuesday community event to highlight the challenges and opportunities faced by disabled people and their families. This annual event is a great way to remind all of us of the importance of considering accessibility and inclusivity when thinking about the customer experience. As a member of the Disability Confident employer scheme, accessibility is a priority for the Council and we are committed to continue to support disabled people and their families across our community and beyond.
