Councils consult on long-term sustainable growth of North East and Central Hertfordshire
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (WHBC) is working together with other councils to plan for the longer-term sustainable growth of North East and Central Hertfordshire (NEC Herts).
The plan is a joint vision prepared by WHBC and five other authorities:
- Broxbourne Borough Council
- North Hertfordshire District Council
- Stevenage Borough Council
- East Hertfordshire District Council
- Hertfordshire County Council
The team have reached a key milestone and have finalised a shared vision setting out the aspirations for the area up to 2050 based around six key themes.
The vision aims to inform cross-boundary planning and strategic growth options that address climate change, environment, infrastructure, housing, and employment. By working together, we are confident we will be in a stronger position to deliver and fund essential facilities that local people want to see, such as transport, schools, health and utilities like water and sewerage.
Each district and borough council will still be responsible for preparing their own local plan, but the preparation of a strategic plan will be important for setting the framework and shared priorities across North East and Central Hertfordshire, within which individual local plans can be prepared.
Councillor Rose Grewal, Executive Member for Planning, said:
“I am delighted that we are working with colleagues from other councils on the development of a strategic plan for North East and Central Hertfordshire. In jointly preparing and consulting on a shared vision at this early stage, we hope to gain a deeper understanding of the priorities of our residents and stakeholders, in Welwyn Hatfield and across NEC Herts as a whole. I encourage everyone to consider the document and share their views.”
The vision is currently out for consultation and is available on the Stevenage website.
The consultation is running for 7 weeks from 13 December to the 31 January.
