Midwinter Magic at Mill Green Watermill and Museum
Mill Green Watermill and Museum will mark the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, with a celebration of midwinter seasonal traditions.
The Magic of Midwinter celebration, coming to the historic venue on 21 December, will feature Wassail, last-minute Christmas gift stalls, and hands-on crafts to make and take home.
There will be mulled cider, hearty hot food, and a fruit tree-planting ceremony, while performances from Morris dance groups Hertfordshire Holly and Wicket Brood will bring festive cheer to visitors on the year’s shortest day.
Visitors will also have the chance to see the restored 18th Century watermill in action – and might even spot the fabled Green Man.
Councillor Jane Quinton, Executive Member for Leisure and Community and Deputy Leader of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, said:
“Christmas and the Winter Solstice are steeped in rich symbolism and customs that have been passed down through the generations.
“This special celebration will allow visitors to mark the shortest day of the year by taking part in some of these time-honoured traditions, with plenty of song, dance, and hearty food and drink, at one of our most beloved historic venues. There will be something for everyone so book your tickets using the link below.”
Mill Green Watermill and Museum, which is owned and run by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, was recently awarded Arts Council England accreditation in recognition of its continued commitment to helping visitors access and engage with its collection, and for its work to protect its collection for future generations.
