The Leader of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (WHBC), Councillor Max Holloway, announced a small change to the WHBC Cabinet at a special meeting of the Cabinet last night (21 January).

The temporary change is happening as a result of Councillor James Broach, the Executive Member for Resources, falling ill over the Christmas period.

Responsibility for the Resources portfolio will now be shared between two councillors.  Councillor Astrid Scott will take on responsibility for Finance, Revenue and Benefits, Procurement, Internal Audit and Fraud.  Councillor Holloway will continue in his role as Leader of the Council and will take on responsibility for Business Centres, Economic Development and Estates.

In addition to these changes, Councillor Matthew Hobbs will become Chair of the Cabinet Housing Panel, a role that has previously been held by Councillor Scott.

Councillor Holloway said: “Councillor Broach has been a key member of the Cabinet and Joint Administration and on behalf of my Cabinet colleagues, councillors and officers, I would like to send him our best wishes for a speedy recovery.  I would also like to thank Councillor Duncan Jones for lending his experience and support within the Resources portfolio since Councillor Broach’s illness.  I would like to welcome Councillor Scott to the Cabinet, and I look forward to working with her and Cabinet colleagues as we continue to build on the good work and progress that we have already achieved through the Council’s vision, priorities and Cabinet task forces."
