New mowing equipment to improve maintenance of Welwyn Hatfield’s green spaces

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is to benefit from new, high-tech mowing equipment that will further improve the maintenance of the borough’s green spaces.

Eight new mowers have been purchased by the council’s contractor, Krinkels UK (previously known as Continental Landscapes Limited), at a cost of more than £300,000.

Combined with the new zonal approach to grass cutting, the mowers will ensure a high standard of performance and be better able to cope with difficult weather and significant growth rates.

The replacement mowers are designed to enhance reliability and reduce repair costs, featuring a belt system and built-in tracking technology. This allows them to share performance data and detect maintenance issues or faults in real time. The aim is for each operative to have their own mower.

Councillor Sandreni Bonfante, Executive Member for Environment, said:

“We’re proud of our environment and heritage, and we’re committed to maintaining our beautiful green spaces.

“Together with our new zonal approach to grass-cutting, this equipment will help to improve the efficiency of maintenance work and ensure it is carried out to the high standard that our residents expect.”

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council’s zonal approach to grass cutting is designed to reduce disruption, improve response times and create a more systematic approach to maintenance across the borough. The council has also introduced more wildflower areas to increase biodiversity.

The measures are part of a broader initiative aimed at improving green space management across Welwyn Hatfield.

Residents can stay up to date with the grass cutting online on the council’s website at https://www.welhat.gov.uk/grasscutting.
