VE Day flag-raising ceremony
Today marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe Day).
To commemorate the occasion, Welwyn Hatfield’s Mayor, Councillor Frank Marsh, raised the VE Day flag, accompanied by members of the Royal British Legion and The Royal Society of St George. A minute’s silence was observed following the reading of the VE Day Proclamation.
The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Lynn Chesterman OBE, Andrew Lewin MP, councillors and members of council staff also attended the flag-raising ceremony.
Later this morning, the Royal British Legion will host a short service at the War Memorial on Howardsgate, Welwyn Garden City, from 10.45am to 11.15am.
