Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is delighted to welcome GAIL’s bakery to its new town-centre outlet in Welwyn Garden City.

The council is committed to supporting vibrant town centres and this is a significant success for its town centre strategy, as Welwyn Garden City was chosen above several other locations being considered by GAIL’s for a new store.

The bakery chain will be moving into the former Carpet Right unit on Howardsgate following the completion of a lease agreement with the council, which owns the site. They will be carrying out a substantial refit of the store before opening to the public this summer.

Councillor Max Holloway, Leader of the Council and Executive Member for Economic Development and Climate Change, said:

“I’m thrilled to welcome GAIL’s bakery to Welwyn Garden City and wish them every success in their new town-centre home. I can’t wait to sample some of the fantastic products they are famous for.

“This move by a renowned company is a real vote of confidence in our strategy to support vibrant town centres, and we will continue to do everything we can to attract businesses to our borough and ensure that our high streets thrive.”

A GAIL’s spokesperson said: “GAIL’s is excited to confirm it is opening a new bakery in Welwyn Garden City this summer. The opening will bring GAIL’s craft baking to the community, including creating a number of craft baking, barista, and management roles.

“We will also be donating surplus baked goods through our Neighbourly partnership. This is part of our ongoing commitment to giving back to the communities we serve and improving access to quality food and drink on the high-street.”
