Volunteers Wanted to Lead ParkPlay Sessions

Leading sports charity ParkPlay is looking for local residents to volunteer as PlayLeaders, helping bring fun, games, and community spirit to King George V Playing Fields in Welwyn Garden City!
ParkPlay is a free weekly initiative delivered by the ParkPlay charity in partnership with Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and from this September, they will be running play sessions every Sunday from 10am to 12pm at King George V Playing Fields. The sessions aim to encourage people of all ages and abilities to get moving through informal games and activities in a relaxed, inclusive environment, offering a fantastic opportunity to boost wellbeing and encourage physical activity.
The success of ParkPlay relies on its PlayLeaders who are enthusiastic volunteers leading the sessions and helping create a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. PlayLeaders welcome participants, set up and run games, make sure everyone is included, and keep each session running smoothly. As a PlayLeader, you’ll not only make a positive difference in the community but also develop valuable skills and boost your confidence.
Playleaders also receive a lot of support, including:
- First aid and safeguarding training
- Access to the ParkPlay digital community
- Access to resources, equipment, games and kit
- Ongoing support including guides and a monthly newsletter of ideas
- Flexibility – you don’t need to volunteer ever weekend
ParkPlay is a Sport England supported charity, and its recent research found that their sessions have a real impact with 81% of participants saying ParkPlay has improved their mental wellbeing and 74% enjoying more activity as a family.
Councillor Jane Quinton, Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Leisure and Community, said:
“ParkPlay is such a brilliant way to bring people together and get moving in a fun, relaxed setting. The ParkPlay sessions encourage children to enjoy lively games outdoors and for everyone to create new connections in the community. If you think that you have what it takes to become a PlayLeader then I would encourage you to find out more using the links below.”
Millie Wyatt, Programme Executive at ParkPlay, said:
"We are excited to bring ParkPlay to King George V Playing Fields in Welwyn Garden City and continue to grow ParkPlay in Herts. Being a PlayLeader is a great way to expand your skills, become part of a national movement and create a real community within your local town. You don't need to attend every week and can bring your family with you! If you'd like to know more, head to park-play.com/playleaders and email hello@park-play.com. We look forward to hearing from you!"
