Get ready to party as Hatfield Carnival brings a burst of music, dance and African and Caribbean flavour to White Lion Square in Hatfield Town Centre on Saturday 30 August.

Running from 10am – 5pm, visitors can enjoy African and Caribbean culture with steel bands, steel drummers, cultural performances and acrobatic dancers filling the square with energy and rhythm. There will be an opportunity to even try your hand at a free drumming workshop, perfect for all ages to learn some beats of their own! Families can also join free storytelling sessions and free face painting throughout the day.

Adding to the experience, a food stall will be serving authentic flavours, including jollof rice, puff-puff, pancakes and fried plantain.

The event is being organised in partnership with local businesswoman, Fola ‘Toffee’ Odusina owner of Toffee Hair and Beauty in Welwyn Garden City, who is excited to help bring this celebration to the local community.

Councillor Jane Quinton, Deputy Leader and Executive Member, Leisure and Community said:

“This year’s town centre events have been a great success, and the Hatfield Carnival is a fantastic way to bring our local community together to celebrate diversity and enjoy African and Caribbean culture and food. Whether you’re dancing to the music, watching the performances or trying something new to eat, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Thank you to everyone that has been involved in organising the Carnival. Keep an eye on our calendar on the One Welwyn Hatfield website for more events taking place this year!”

Toffee said: “This is the first year that we have held the Hatfield Carnival in the Town Centre and as a local business owner, I am delighted that visitors will be able to experience authentic Caribbean and African food, the melodies of the steel drum bands and the colourful dancers in their amazing costumes. The day promises to be one to remember so please come along and join in the fun!”

The event will be running alongside the popular Hatfield market and visitors can take advantage of up to three hours free parking in the town centre’s The Common multi-storey car park.

This event is part of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council’s summer events programme and funded through the UK shared prosperity fund (UKSPF), a government initiative supporting town centre investment and local businesses.
