Raising the flag to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan (VJ) Day.
We have proudly raised a commemorative flag above our council offices to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan (VJ) Day, when the surrender of Japanese forces brought the Second World War to an end.
The Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, Cllr Lynn Chesterman OBE, raised the VJ Day 80 flag and gave a speech in honour of the Armed Forces and all those who contributed to the war effort. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Leader of the Council, Cllr Jane Quinton, fellow councillors, and members of the Royal British Legion.
