Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is taking steps to respond to residents’ concerns about fly-tipping and littering in Salisbury Village Estate, Hatfield.

Councillor Sandreni Bonfante, Executive Member Environment, said:

"We are taking action and actively working to address ongoing concerns about fly-tipping and littering in Salisbury Village Estate in Hatfield, following complaints from local residents.

After a thorough inspection of the area, we have issued three Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 to the landowners responsible for areas across the estate. These warnings set out clear expectations, standards, and actions required by the landowners to improve the condition of the area, including the removal of fly-tipped waste and litter, and maintenance of the roads and communal areas.

We will be contacting the managers of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) on the estate to remind them of their responsibilities around providing adequate waste storage and disposal arrangements. Enforcement action may be taken where these responsibilities are not met. We also intend to work closely with the University of Hertfordshire to provide advice and guidance to students who live in the estate on the correct disposal of waste and how bin collections operate.

To support this effort, we are planning a Community Action Day. Council staff will be on site to speak with residents, provide advice, and work to address the issues raised. We will share the date and time once these are confirmed.

Residents can find additional guidance on correctly presenting and disposing of waste on our website."
